Meet Your New Favourite Band

Every now and again an album will come into be reviewed that makes you remember just why you love this job, one that makes you realise that whilst everyone and their dog is vying for attention on the X Factor, bands are still out there plying their trade and doing it with style and conviction to prove that British metal is not a dead and buried relic. Four lads from Corby are testament to that and with their debut album set for release on October 28th, Acoda are certainly out to show all that they are a band to be reckoned with, a band that warrant your attention and one which will show all that metal is far from dead.

Acoda literally tick every box with Yours To Defend insuring that each track holds a little something for everyone from the blazing riffs that thrillingly thrash against raging vocals to inject the full throttle head banging, fist pounding enthusiasm to the soaring whirl of guitars that meld to passion fused, melodic vocals that will not fail to stir emotions. Opening track and lead single, The Future Is Yours To Defend is the ideal introduction to not only the album but the band themselves. Instantly going for the jugular with a blast of growled vocals, The Future Is Yours To Defend borrows touches of heavier Bullet For My Valentine, brandishing roaring vocals and raging riffs, before sprinkling Funeral For A Friend like waves of melodic hooks and soaring vocal harmonies that launches the track into epic striving territory, a feat many young bands attempt but fail to achieve, Acoda puts all others to shame and based on what they have achieved here, things are certainly going to be exciting as the young lads from Corby realise their full potential. From the epic opening track to the sweeping emotional roller coaster of Two Of A Kind which only reinforces the promise of the band, immediately grabbing your attention, excitingly reinforcing the fact that you have just discovered your new favourite band, to the haunting Daws Heath which finds front man Damon Tang easing off the power punch of previous tracks and letting his vocals take centre stage with great effect.

Discovering a new band is exhilarating and Acoda certainly have that effect. With the Red Bull Bedroom Jam tour of 2011 under their belt including sets at various festivals along with an EP already to their name, this is a band that know how to put in the hard work and with so much promise residing throughout each track, one that will undoubtedly reinstate your faith in the British metal scene.
