Is this the future?
The Futureheads are another of the new breed of pop/rock that has cropped up, and is currently being lapped up by the British public like porn in a playground. Hailing from the North East, the Geordie vocals give them a different sound - Okay I'm trying to be nice, the vocals make the band sound like The Proclaimers singing songs by The Clash - and yes, I know that The Proclaimers are Scottish, thank you very much.
It's an upbeat song, with music like The Libertines and The Clash and brazenly hooky guitar riffs. The lyrics are as simple as playschool rhymes and the overall song is uninspiring and more proof that in Britain we like to give ourselves trends that other countries wouldn't look twice at.
Here we have another band rehashing an 80's pop/rock sound that was bloody awful the first time, and shockingly below average the second. This is the musical equivalent of getting a tattoo but without anything to show for it in the end.
Of course The Futureheads have appeared on such high-esteemed programmes as T4 and CD:UK, and with their massive radio play backing them up, 'Decent Days And Nights' is destined for at least a Top 20 spot - now, I may be cynical but I see a similarity with this song and the story of the emperor's new clothes...
If you are currently dribbling down your chin at the prospect of another band like Keane, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers and The Libertines, then fine buy this and watch your nipples get hard while the rest of us avoid it like the plague...
