Ghost Thrower - Ghost Thrower

The full-length self-titled debut album from Ghost Thrower delivers some indie rock in the form of eleven tracks. The first track, Halloween In Brooklyn, opens with some indie guitars and harmonizing "ohh's". As the lyrics kick in, the true indie vibes take over to make this a cheerful upbeat natured song. Lemons is a little more powerful and stronger in its melodies with a rockier edge. There is a main vocal present but in the backing there is a hum of a distant vocal that is drowned out by the main voice. In Still Life With Paranoia keys give a greater effect while When Are You Coming Home? takes on a rockier feel. The way in which The Unexamined Life is structured makes the lyrics stand out more with the rumble of guitars, the crash of drums and the repetition of the concluding line "never be happy again".

Illuminatus! has two vocals, one upbeat and melodious while the other more toned down and flat. Although the two toned vocals sound interesting in theory, on this occasion they actually make for a more uncomfortable sound and don't sit well together. This joining of vocals works better on Dopamine And Other Divisions Of The Human Condition, but they do not sound as in sync as one may have hoped. The sensations experienced through the albums opener come about once again for the fast paced Apple while the album concludes with the rugged Worry Addled Brain.

Each of the tracks are energetic and pleasing on the ears, however, there is nothing particularly breath taking, stand out or memorable about the release as a whole. Something with a little more oomph, a few explosions of sound, would have made for much more of an impact and left a lasting impression and not just a 'decent' release.
