Dull Scented

German Death Metallers, Dew Scented formed in 1992 and released their debut demo "Symbolization" a few years later, since then they have toured the world with many renowned heavy metal acts and have gained many fans. Some of their past albums have been much hit and miss, so what will "Issue VI" be like?

Opening with a ferocious track entitled "Processing Life" it appears that they have decided to stick to their Thrash/Death style, which although is solid enough, appears to be slightly samey.

The second track, "Rituals of Time" kicks in...Surprise, surprise, It sounds almost identical to the opening track; I hope it starts to shape up as the album goes on.

"Turn to Ash" is the next song on the album. Oh dear, exactly the same again, this album isn't looking so good at the minute. "Ruins of Hope" is the next track, oh wow, it has a different drum beat to the other three tracks, so original.

I won't bore you people with examinations of all the tracks on this album, but to cut a long story short, no track on this album really stands out at all, it is not about being original anymore.

The production on this album is nothing to write home about either, the only instruments that really stand out here are the Guitars and Vocals, the guitarists here seem very capable, it is a shame that they don't show much creativity. The bass is pretty much inaudible which is a shame. and the drums sound weak, does he even have a bass drum?

With each tracking clocking in at just four minutes and under, it doesn't seem like there is room for any epics, ballads or instrumentals on this album, which would be nice to say the least, and might even save this review from being so negative. But the overall reason that I am giving this album not such a good review is that fact that it is just so incredibly samey, there is no originality here whatsoever as I have already mentioned, they could do a lot better! If they had of put more thought into this, Dew Scented could have created a much better album. I am afraid this album will not be in my top 10 of 2005.
