House Of Lords - Precious Metal

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, House of Lords formed over two decades ago, back in 1987. Countless tours and line-up changes later and the band are about to release album number nine, titled Precious Metal.

The album kick starts with Battle, a track that teases with some guitars before really getting things thumping. The chorus line "In-to, in-to, battle!" is one that you can visualise thousands of people screaming along with at a packed out arena. As an opener, this track certainly makes quite an impact. I'm Breakin' Free is up next bringing much the same energy and yet another scream along chorus. Epic has some light keys before the tougher tones kick in, then returns again as the track fades out. Live Every Day (Like It's The Last) takes things down a notch and demonstrates the softer side of House of Lords, a side that they can hold tight just as much as the rockier tunes. The way this track is written just makes you want to sing out loud, particularly the melodious chorus.

Permission To Die takes things back to the upbeat side of the band and includes one heck of a guitar solo. The album's title track Precious Metal is another demonstration of the more delicate side of House of Lords, taking things even slower and has some wonderful vocal contributions. Swimmin' With The Sharks and Raw then ravage their way through the next eight minutes with their upbeat melodies while Enemy Mine has a slower, poppier element making it more laid back and includes guest vocals from Robin Beck. Action reverts back to the tougher side of House of Lords once again, upbeat, full of want to singing-a-long lyrics and another electric guitar solo; Turn Back The Tide follows suit and as the album comes to a close with You Might Just Save My Life, you realise just what an incredible album you have just listened to.

After twenty-seven years in the music industry, you may have expected things to be a little "been there done that" by now. However there is new life in House of Lords and they are going stronger than ever...
