Violet - The Love/The Lust

The musicians in this band are not the type to listen to one genre of music and then write and record with a specific route in mind. What they have is an overall passion for all kinds of music, pulling together a range of influences and from this appreciation of anything and everything they have created their own style for this album. Although there are clear influences from bands such as Emarosa and Memphis May Fire, there are infusions of R&B, metalcore as well as pop music. Like their style of creating music, their manner of writing draws upon a range of personal experiences, feelings and emotions from love to loss and everything in between.

The album opens with Expectations.Reality and makes quite an impact for a first listen. Introductory tracks are vital as they are the ones that will either bore a listener to the point they can't wait for the end or get them so excited they want to hear more; thankfully it is the latter in this case. There are the dual vocals, one that screams the lyrics quite aggressively while the other gently sings. Some tracks give off a more aggressive feel such as Daydreamer while others are much lighter in their steps like The Love. On the choruses in particular you can really hear the R&B influences in the melodies while the pop ambiance is never far away on most tracks. Pulsating guitars, with riffs that draw a listener in, combined drumming that will knock your socks off and with the occasional piano segment each track passes and you are left content and gasping for more.

There is not one particular track that stands out on this album, but the album overall stands out for its talent as a debut. It is refreshing to hear an album that combines so many musical influences and then puts a unique stamp on it to make it their own. Having already shared the stage with the likes of Closure In Moscow and Dance Gavin Dance to name but a few, it's likely this album will be the headway for Violet to make a name for themselves in the industry. This is only the start of the journey for these passionate musicians and if this record is anything to go by its going to be a busy one!
