Good Discovery

The Armory hail from Atlanta, Georgia, where they have been creating waves for their polished live shows, waves big enough that they managed to cross the Atlantic to these shores. Now, after five years of being together and on the back of two previously released EP's, Sleepwalking to the Ends of the Earth and Dynasty, the quintet release their debut full length album Rediscover, showing that the idiom "Good things come to those that wait" is very much accurate here.

Rediscover is quite simply pure post-hard core meets indie rock performed to perfection. The quality of the music is right at the max throughout and when you add Sean Wheeler's emotional and powerful vocals, it adds to making it a tad short but highly enjoyable 31 minutes of listening pleasure.

The opener Stay does set the tone of the album perfectly, fast paced radio friendly rock, edgy riffs that continue all the way through and powerful vocals fuelled with emotion. The title track, Rediscovery, is a slow builder, first half acoustic before exploding into the finale.

There are no weak tracks amongst the nine on offer but special praise should be given to Peter Piper, the final track of the album, for being a real hard core rock tune. It takes a lot of balls to put a stand out track like this at, what is traditionally, the arse end of an album, where interest becomes a little jaded - definitely not the case here.

There are hints of Pearl Jam, Deftones, 30 Seconds to Mars and Foo Fighters within the album. Good chance they would all be proud to have their name associated with the music on this album.

The Armory's radio friendly tracks should see them get the exposure they deserve, although maybe sometime before we get to see them over here. Always good to start the year with on a good note.
