Everything Is Definitely Fine
Hawk Eyes have seriously been making huge strides recently and the anticipation for this new record has been high. For those new to the band, they blend together a unique breed of heavy rock with a melodic touch citing influences from across the heavy music spectrum. It’s been a good couple of years now since their last release with Ideas and they’ve toured almost non-stop ever since, so this new record feels long overdue. If you needed a clear idea about the eclectic nature of the band just take a look at the first two tracks on Everything Is Fine. The opener The Trap is a melodic rock song, whilst The Ambassador ramps up the intensity to deliver a punkier edge. They’re clearly a talented bunch, and as you make your way through the whole record you’ll begin to see exactly why they’ve got such a strong backing.
Ideas put this band on the maps, and as the years have gone by more and more people have flocked to see Hawk Eyes live off the back of it, but Everything Is Fine is such a clear step up from that record it almost feels like a different band completely. If you’ve seen the band live in the past year or so, you may be familiar with some of the tracks on here already - Die Trying already being a bit of a crowd favourite says a lot about the quality of the songs. The eclectic nature of the band’s music makes for very addictive listening. At times they sound like Dillinger, and at other times they sound like Alter Bridge, it really does jump around, but to positive results. This variation says a lot about the talents of the front man who arguably steals the show across the whole record as he seamlessly transitions between melodic singing to grunge style anguish.
Another real high point on the album are the inventive riffs which shine through some of the excellent guitar work. The track I Never Lose is a perfect example of this as the riffs feel almost neurotic at times, completely taking over your brain; building towards what becomes a chaotic finale.
Hawk Eyes are one of the leading young British bands making strides in heavy music at the moment and Everything Is Fine is all set to elevate them to the next stage. They’ve already reached high acclaim in live circles and now they have the record to back all of this up. The small operation of four guys and their instruments could be on the cusp of expanding due to the quality expressed on this album. Set to be one of the top British Heavy Rock albums of 2015 for sure.
