Calm For The Restless - Destroyed But Not Defeated

Following on from the success of their first EP We Started A Fire, their second deliverance of Destroyed But Not Defeated, does not disappoint. The opening riff of After Tonight makes you stand up and pay attention, these guys mean business, the grit of the riffs combined with the melodic vocals work perfectly, it is such a catchy song, the sort you have on constant repeat in the car on the drive to work because it’s just a great feel good kick ass song you can sing and head bang along to and never get bored of listening to it.

The five songs on this EP really do showcase the spectrum of talent these guys are capable of, by the end of track four Lost To The Ocean, you can easily be misled into thinking that you’ve got this band sussed and you can almost predict their next track structure but then Bury Me In The Waves comes on and once again Calm For The Restless have your divine attention. No matter how heavy your tastes may be you can not helped but be completely bowled over by the raw emotion being channelled into this track.

To be able to start an EP from such a kick ass heavy song to end it on one that can bring a tear to your eye is true talent, and shows that Calm For The Restless isn’t another scene band working through a how to checklist of keeping within the boundaries of expectations. The vocals throughout Destroyed But Not Defeated are mesmerising, combine that with flawless guitar, bass and drums it works perfectly. Calm For The Restless are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
