Seconds Alive - Bitter Moments
Friday 30th October see’s the new release from UK's Exeter group Seconds Alive. Self describing as a metalcore band but not entirely keeping to a metalcore run of the mill genre, Seconds Alive deliver so much more than the standard expectations from a metalcore band.
Opening up the EP with Red Blood, it's not the strongest track out of the 6 on the EP but definitely a good introduction. The opening distortion is always a favourite and standard rolling drum beat into the track can mislead you into thinking here we go again, but the vocals are so passionate and the energy that flows through this whole EP is outstanding, immediately your looking at gig listings and wanting to be in a Seconds Alive pit.
It's absolutely full of adrenaline throughout the whole EP and never loses it’s way, never becomes messy. The structure is concise, the vocals are consistent. Unsure of how well the harmonic break on the new single Upon Yourself work as a whole in keeping with the remainder of the EP - it does not necessarily sound bad but not entirely convinced whether it adds any musical value to an otherwise very heavy track, almost feels having the harmonics interrupts the momentum. Speechless is simply epic, as part of a live set this would be the point you can give your head a break, pick up your wallet from the pit floor and just listen in awe at the musical capabilities of this band.
Overall, there are few bands working the underground circuit that you can honestly either remember or wish to remember but if Seconds Alive put as much energy into their live sets as they do on this EP they are worthy of moving up the ranks of recognition within the music industry.
