Truly have come of age

Following up their highly acclaimed 2015 EP Laguna Babe, The Van T’s return with the follow up EP A Coming of Age. Right from the start of the 4 track EP it is easy to see why the Scottish quartet are getting the plaudits.

Twin sisters Hannah and Chloe Van Thompson (The Van T’s!) combine their distorted guitars and melodic duel vocals that fit the mood of all tracks with perfection that just leave you hoping they start venturing south of the border on a regular basis, unless you are in Scotland already!

Openers 35mm and Blood Orange set the tone of the EP with a wall of noise that the twins create along with Joanne Forbes on bass and Shaun Hood’s drums. The distant scream towards the end of Blood Orange comes out of nowhere and creates an additional haunting feel to the track.

No Man’s Money and Dandy may very well have a more upbeat tune to them but never loses the dirty grunge feel. Just four tracks as close to perfection as you can get.

While all the tracks have a lo-fi, grungy feel to them, the quality of production, musicianship and especially the captivating vocals are at a level you would expect on a band with a lot more than one EP to their name, a hell of a lot more.

The Van T’s have a certain allure about them, expect to hear and see them conquer Scotland and beyond very soon.
