High speed bullet train to Vegas

Bullet Train To Vegas is the brainchild of ex-Adamantium and Give Until Gone singer/guitarist Dan Sena, who set out to create a band whose sound contradicted the current dull and predictable state of punk and indie rock. Joining Mr Sena - after many line up changes - are Bassist Greg Horton, Erik Bailey on Guitar and finally on tub-thumping duties Martin Cornish.

First song 'Cut The Party To Pieces' is a great indication as to what is to be expected for the rest of the album. Dan's shouting/screaming lyrics, and the quick tempo of the guitars and rhythm section have other people spouting references to bands such as Blood Brothers, Billy Talent and Please Mr Gravedigger. These are, of course, all valid. They manage to meld the sharp and frantic guitar style of post-punk pioneers such as Gang Of Four and Wire.

Whilst some songs sound a little like At The Drive-In, others do show the aforementioned leanings towards The Blood Brothers, such as 'On The Disclosure' and 'This Bed's Meant For Two' most notably, with the Billy Talent's influences for all to see on 'And Sorrows Native Son'.

With 'Fashion The New Black' they have what is for all intents and purposes a party song with dark lyrics, which has been cunning disguised to be anything but. For me however it's the best song on here. Last song 'Some Goodbyes Last Forever' starts off slowly with whispering lyrics and builds into a crescendo of big beats, blazing guitar riffs and screaming vocals all coming together very well indeed.

Produced by Alex Newport (At The Drive In, The Mars Volts, Ikara Colt), 'We Put Scissors Where Are Mouths Are' is a polished sounding album without losing enough rawness to keep the sound's integrity in the genre. It's also another indication as to how labels are branching out, and listening to what people really want, as Nitro usually favour a punkier sound.

Chances are this album will not set the world on fire, however, give them another album or so and there are no reasons why this band won't get a strong backing and sell records to the masses.
