Kooks - Eddie's Gun

This is an air drums anthem in the making, in the mold of Bloc Party, in particular ‘Helicopter’. Sadly it’s over almost before you realize as it is three seconds shy of two minutes, but it certainly makes you skip back for another blast. There is a definite air of early Supergrass to it as it hits the ground running in the same way as ‘Caught by the Fuzz’, which went on to become an Indy classic; this track has the legs to do the same.

Many sections of the music press are getting rather excited about this lot and they’re already receiving much love from a number of the countries alternative radio shows. This is unsurprising as ‘Eddie’s Gun’ is a track well suited to radio play, catchy but still with an edge that retains a raw side to them. Support slots with the likes of the Dead 60s and Subways means a hard-core following is developing for this four piece from Brighton. Forth coming headline tours and a slot at the V Festival will undoubtedly expand that following.

This is the first thing I’ve heard from The Kooks and I am yet to see them live. As a one off track it isn’t anything especially knew in sound however there’s nothing wrong with that and I’m already looking forward to hearing what else they have to offer, they’re certainly deserving of that “band to watch” tag that they’ve been labeled with.
