Blondie take on Oasis

No matter which way you look at it, The New Shapes second single isn't modernist punk as the press release calls it. Instead, 'Waiting for a God' sounds like Blondie clashing with Oasis' 'All Around the World' - new wave rock you could call it. The band have garnered quite a lot of interest from various corners, including radio play from Zane Lowe and Steve Lamacq, but whilst this isn't a bad single it sounds like a lot of other eighties new wave influenced stuff around.

'New Queen' prefers to go down the route of garage rock first off, with some scuzzed out guitars and great almost stream-of-consciousness vocals. The chorus is sadly a different matter, sounding like it could morph into 'Roll With It' given half a chance. Only the fuzzy keyboards save it from being a total rip off. It is a shame, however, that they show their influences so blatantly as, with more time and care, they could be pretty good. Not a bad effort, though.
