Glitz, glamour without the excess
The Simple Minds name come to tongue instantly as soon as I heard the intro to this song, by reading the press release I'd assumed the band were some 80's outcast wannabes, but no, they would actually sound plausible as an extra track on a Breakfast Club soundtrack. They're catchy and not kitschy at all. The sounds are very anthemic and hook laden. The songs have that arena grabbing sound and feel to them, and are very well produced. They have a sense of authenticity captured within their deliberately show-offy guitar licks and solos that most bands going for this sound fail to achieve.
This is never edgy and never too serious, the novelty is that it's believable and there is genuine talent and passion behind the music coming from the band which that is something that is always appreciable in the darker days of, erm, The Darkness.
