A Fair Return
From their punk roots of 1970s London, the Television Personalities have emerged after an 11 year absence with their latest album, 'My Dark Places'. Team this with the title of the single and it does not take a genius to figure out that drugs are the predominant subject matter for main man Dan Treacy, with a long history of personal experience playing a major part in his musical writing.
Treacy, who was prosecuted and banged up for shoplifting during the 1990s, is one of those cult artists who seem to have an incredible celebrity fan base to include the late Kurt Cobain and soon to be late Pete Doherty. It is easy to see why they are fans; the music reflects drug use in such an intriguing style that is sure to make it instantly relatable to any junkie.
Whilst seemingly dark and depressing, there is a bizarre comical element to the track that asserts a realisation that the Television Personalities may be a little too clever to be popular.
