Oxford's Franz Ferdinand

Hailing from the historic city of Oxford, it would be fairly fitting to describe the Young Knives as a posh Franz Ferdinand. That is until you see the video for 'Here Comes the Rumour Mill' when it becomes apparent they are much more than that.

The single itself is a serrated student rock track with a large dose of eccentricity thrown in for good measure, and I'm not just talking about the band themselves. The video follows a hilarious story in which the lead singer is being stalked by creepy children in anoraks, causing much distress and resulting in his demise.

I can imagine The Young Knives are drawing comparisons to fairly similar bands who are in the spotlight right now in terms of sound at least, but I have to say there is something which makes this one stand out enough on their own to warrant a hit single.
