A Little Bland
'Rise Up With Fists' is the first single to be taken from 'Rabbit Fur Coat', which is the debut album from singer Jenny Lewis. Unfortunately the release of this album cannot be seen as terribly exciting prospect if the single is anything to go by.
Lewis herself has a pleasant enough voice in a contrived American-ised way, but the single is just well, a bit dull really. I can envision Jenny Lewis being marketed as a female Jack Johnson, you know the type, monotonous chill-out laidback acoustic style Californian surfing music.
The problem with 'Rise Up With Fists' is that it is not a particularly memorable track, I have just listened to it three times on repeat and still wouldn't recognise it if I were to hear it again. This may be a good thing in hindsight as The Watson Twins - whoever they may be - do nothing to add any character to the song apart from some occasional backing vocals.
If this single is any indication as to what the rest of the album sounds like, I am steering well clear.
