Return of Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Yeah Yeah Yeahs return with the first single from their forth-coming new album 'Show Your Bones', and it gives us an idea of how one of New York's finest exports of the past few years may have developed since their debut 'Fever To Tell'.
'Gold Lion' opens the new album, and seems to combine what we're used to with this band with what we might come to expect in the future. It retains some of the rawness of previous Yeah Yeah Yeahs tracks, but there is a more mainstream melodic and mature sound to it, drifting away from the "Art Punk" tag which they were given after they emerged in 2002.
From the start you think they've gone all soft on us, a simple drum intro gives way to a acoustic guitar sounding rift as an undercurrent to vocals from Karen O, which are almost haunting. Just as you're settling down for an easy ride, like the proverbial lion on a wildebeest this track jumps on you with a direct feistiness which is characteristic of this band.
'Gold Lion' is out as of March 20th, with the album following on March 27th. With a return single this strong expect more top class live action over the summer.
