Short But Sweet
Projections are a three piece UK based band from Brighton and this single is short but sweet, coming in less than two minutes long. A jagged little Indie rock number, it would seem that the band have been very cautious as to list any influences or similarities on any of their web pages, presumably to avoid being pigeon holed into a specific genre. The only problem that I find with bands who have this 'we sound like whatever we want and don't have influences' attitude is that they often end up not sounding like anything in particular at all therefore making it difficult to actually remember them.
'We Couldn't Speak' is not an especially strong single musically, and the B-side 'Twenty Three' an instrumental track, seems to lack any direction. Projections have a challenge ahead of them if they want to make it big; they need some sort of identity and some stronger tunes. However this is nothing that a lot of hard work and gigs won't solve.
