Everything For Some release their debut full-length

It's strange when you live in a town as small as I do and yet there are local bands such as Everything For Some hiding in the darkest corners of the streets. It's funny because looking at the band's bio pictures on their website, I recognise bassist Steve Dillon and drummer Ashley Tomlinson from local alternative bar The George.

Anyways down to the nitty gritty, 'Identity' is the follow-up to 2004's 'A Thought Refused' and has a lot to live up for as far as it's predecessor is concerned. Everything For Some play a rifftastic hardcore that's a pleasure on the ears in contrast to the krock of 'hardcore' shit that's currently invading alternative radio stations. Vocalist 'Chicken' has a scream that would usually result in any normal person shitting houses. The fact he can retain such a brute tone throughout a whole song (let alone the whole album) is pretty incredible.

I find it hard to point out anything that is particularly exceptional about any of the individual musicians and maybe that's where the band lacks. There aren't any solos or anything outstanding in the music. That's not to say that the band aren't good because they're certainly one of the better bands I have come across in recent months and their musicianship as a group is very tight.

On the rare occasions where Everything For Some hit the breakdowns to each song, we're introduced to a totally different side of the band. The sound production has enabled the band a surreal atmosphere on the record that equals that of Rage Against the Machines quieter moments. One song that takes full advantage of this remarkable sound is 'Should Be Now' with 3 minutes of 'mellow metal' (no, not pussy metal...slow grungy...ahhh I hate these stupid media buzz words) and then a minute of absolute metal.

This isn't double-bass pedal, deafingly out-of-tune, whiney/screaming/whiney metal but a music that's well controlled and 4 people who have found a perfect sound between crunchy riffs and olde British metal beats. It's bands like Everything For Some where people can go to their shows and enjoy what they're doing regardless to what their initial musical preference is.
