The Close-Ups - 2am In Flat 3b

When this CD came through the post I thought it was going to be some kind of pop-punk band, boy, was I wrong. The Close-ups are a four-piece cartoon band that is releasing their debut album "2am In Flat 3b".

The Close-ups are the creation of Carl Green, who "Writes pop songs, but didn't want to be a pop star" and young Abby Connor fronts them. Abby sounds like most other girl singers you have ever loved, just that it sounds like she is on helium. The album is a mix of bubblegum and quirky pop with some very strange subjects including work place perverts, unstable mothers, and imagined encounters with 60's supermodels. Whether this band is trying to make proper pop music or have a number one hit they should be applauded for producing something unlike anything else around at the moment.

If you are looking for a break from the norm, and you actually want to find something different and original this is definitely worth checking out, it's straightforward brilliant pop, with added weird bits.
