Put this in your pipe and smoke it

Preston trio The KBC release 'Sherlock Holmes Groove' as a download only - their third such offering to date.

Although their ages only just slink into the twenties, The KBC have a demonstrable affection for, and understanding of soul and funk. Married to some quirky electronic beats, this record is a classic, one sure to get any dance floor twitching with all the movers, shakers, bakers and quakers exposed to its infectious charms.

It's a perky, jerky sonic assault on the eardrums - lurching from fractured, flickering guitar-imbued verses to a smooth bass-heavy melodic chorus - all featuring some great distorted vocals from James Mulholland.

For fans of funk-indie, this is required listening. The KBC have enjoyed radio support from Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe and Marc Riley and it appears that their star can only continue to rise...a fact which is surely elementary, Watson...

Oh - and one of the other reasons I like them is the fact that they only paid 50p for their keyboard. That decision smacks of devout dedication and remarkable professionalism. I'd have bought a Kit Kat Chunky instead...
