The Young Knives Single Review

This is another one of those previous single (in this case EP) re-release cash-ins – good job it's a good one. The Young Knives are already hugely popular, even though their debut album has yet to be released, and this single is proof of the faith in their growing popularity; re-recorded with better production and a new miles more expensive looking video to go with it.

The bands popularity is basically a testament to their song writing talents – they have a knack for making the mundane interesting with their lyrics (like 'Weekends and Bleak Days' a song about skiving off work) and mixing this with really danceable but quirky tunes that have incredibly catchy choruses. Although they are not entirely original – coming from a tradition of oh so British indie-pop like Pulp (and although they at times sound remarkably like recently deceased Cardiff trio Mclusky, although not as caustic) they do it all with such panache and conviction that you can't help but like them.
