Uninspiring metal...

This single '...To Be Loved' from their new album 'The Paramour Sessions' sees Papa Roach once again change their musical direction in an attempt to increase their mass appeal. Not content with erasing any links with nu-metal on their last album they now attempt to cash in on the return to that 80s cheesy metal sound that bands like Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold and Eighteen Visions are using as a template.

Unfortunately they haven't replaced their old nu-metal angle with anything else; instead they get rid of any quirks and go for a much more straight forward sound, although it's probably a lot more accessible it makes for a weak and unmemorable single. Its formulaic approach is uninspiring and has none of the style and interesting bits of other bands like Avenged..., it's all been done before and by smoothing out their rough edges they've lost any individuality they may have once had; there is just nothing here to get your teeth into, good or bad.
