Apartment have a political message via their new single

A four piece on the eve of the release of releasing their debut album, Apartment have an agenda. '10000 Times', written after witnessing their local MP George Galloway's behaviour on 'Celebrity Big Brother', is a song with a political agenda. The lyrics deal with encouraging street demonstrations and refer to "flying the flag for mutiny". While it's encouraging to discover that some bands on the current 'scene' are attempting to write songs comprised of "good times" and catchy choruses, this still feels slightly counterfeit. After a while the lyrics begin to get repetitive and there is little that is new here. The Morrissey yodelling coupled with the familiar sound of Interpol, does little to suggest Apartment are anything beyond part of a wide scene of bands with the same influences. While they certainly deserve points for trying, maybe next time they should try a little harder.

Accompanying song 'The Flood' begins with a humming melody, which gives way to something more frantic. A generally slower paced song than '10000 Times', the vocals occasionally sound forced, but mostly the lyrics seem generally felt. In my humble view this song is superior to the title track, and might suggest that this band are just aiming too high, and should perhaps consider trying less hard to differentiate themselves from their moody influences, and embrace their place behind them instead.
