Beautiful, lazy and melodic.
With a song that's so delightful and free that it makes candy floss seem like a lead balloon in comparison, Tunng are back with 'Jenny Again.'
Successfully combining the melodic twists and interplay of the folk scene but with the sparse and hypnotic backing track of electronica, Tunng have created a fanbase and reputation that precedes this single, and its release is unlikely to harm it any.
The opening sample may come from a 1970s educational album but it belongs to any UK kitchen sink drama and immediately the listener is put on the back foot, awaiting a tale of pathos and possible tragedy.
Like all the best melodic tracks, the lyrics hold a darker tale that is perfect for suckering in people to singing along to. The pace is reserved and theres no shocks to the system but perhaps there is more to this song than meets they eye. With the opening line referring to throwing a knife into a lane, one can only wonder if it was used and is being disposed of to hide the weapon and evidence.
Either way, the song glides on a glitchy electro backing as the lead vocals coo and hmmm making the song an almost dream-like composition that doesn't have too much substance but its just a lovely little track. Its not made for radio airplay or soundtracking but as a standalone song, or as fulfilling the bigger goal of the Tunng album, 'Jenny Again' positively shines and shimmers without even leaving a footprint.
