Return Of The Kings
The Kings Of Leon return once again after their dazzling debut to grace your stereos, this time with their new masterpiece ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak.’ Those familiar with the Kings already will know they have a flair for producing feel good, joyous anthems and this album does not let the reputation falter at all.
‘Slow Night, So Long’ opens with the familiar warm sounds of guitars and reflects the summer sounds from when it was recorded. It is an uplifting, charismatic anthem which excels in its vocal styling and has you instantly engulfed in the music. ‘King Of The Rodeo’ begins by bringing the pace down a notch and exudes a smooth, swaying melody accompanied by backing piano, maximising the relaxed feel. The song then picks up in speed and magnetism as the lyrics read ‘let the good times roll’ which epitomises the entire emotion of the song.
‘Milk’ is a beautifully crafted gem of a song. In comparison to the other tracks we find a soul baring, eloquently devised ballad. Its lilting melody and strained vocals are instantly graceful and melt into a thick bass line on occasion. The whole feel draws you in and holds your attention in every word, every chord, and every chime. ‘The Bucket’, the debut single from the album, follows in all its glory. The song is an instantaneously classic and has all the glamour and glitz to have absolutely anyone enthralled by its good time music and sing-a-long lyrics.
‘Soft’ continues the high spirits with its almost Strokes-esque guitar riffs and up beat tunes as the vocals follow suit, “I passed out in your garden…I’d come into your party but I’m soft.” ‘Velvet Snow’ is even faster in tempo and amiability. Once again you’re drawn into the happy jamboree that is ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’ in all its feel good glory and splendour. This album is a must to get you through the cold weather ahead!
