An Impassioned Indie Dream
Imagine a stream, stirring rather than rippling, because something is awaking beneath; this is what both the title, and sound of 'Undercurrents' evoke in your mind as crashing guitars surge from the depths below. The quivering verses are a masterpiece of emotional electronic guitarwork, something that would in the past been thought of as a contradiction, with synths only forming blips and cheesy tunes in the background and guitars for creating big rhythms, but this is the real deal, a tender and shimmering indie tune. The vocals ebb and flow over the lilting tune and crushing peaks, perfectly in tune with the churning tide of tide of feelings.
B-side 'Machines' is a warm, subtle and mellow piece that sparkles deliciously before launching into a more traditional chorus that could be the fare of other Mancunians Elbow or Dove. The Silent Parade create a pleasant and emotive blend of self-aware guitars and glorious indie tunes.
