Keep on running

Ah, December - the month in which about two good singles are released on average every year and I'm expected to show seasonal good will to all bands (excluding Westlife of course). Luckily for The Long Run I've hung up my terminally grumpy late twenties indie kid hat for a few days and I'm prepared to give their blatantly derivative demo a reasonable review. Despite the rather obvious plagiarism (the opening riff is distinctly reminiscent of 'The Theme from Peter Gunn') the lead track ('Billy The Kidd') is a mildly enjoyable slice of sixties indebted indie rock that wouldn't sound out of place on the Holloways' Britpop-aping debut.

Sure these young whippersnappers borrow liberally from their peers and heroes past but then who doesn't in this post-modern age? On 'Homecoming Light' the band show some deft minor psych touches while remaining true to their love for the blues and Led Zeppelin's more tender moments. 'Dancing Till Dawn' meanwhile rumbles on over an incessant groove to rather less impressive affect. While this demo is hardly world beating stuff it is genuinely tuneful and refreshingly pretension free, a scarce commodity in these myspace infected days.
