Wacky And Weird

It's hard to know whether Vienna native Martin 101 is to be taken seriously or not, perhaps it's his aim that you listen to his 'Dangerous Cat' offering with your tongue wedged firmly in your cheek, either that or biting your lip to suppress the chuckle that's threatening to escape.

After just a few seconds Martin 101 has done the impossible – he's managed to turn back time and suddenly it's as if the last 20 odd years never happened. Having wiped away all knowledge of emo, grunge, rave and Brit pop from our consciousnesses the Viennese artist proceeds to do a very convincing Marc Almond imitation, laden with posturing and laced with an air of campness as 'Dangerous Cat' adds extra weight to the pronunciation of every syllable on the track. Once you get over the impact of the initial "what the ...?" feeling that washes over you with every beat, the track somehow has a redeeming feature. Sure you'd not seek it out as your all time classic but as something a little bit different it's quite a pleasant change. Going even further into the realm of strange and unusual however is Martin 101's take on Chip Taylor's classic, 'Wild Thing'; let's just say the rock emphasis has been displaced by a sinister electro stance that embraces a little glam rock before running off with grungy dance beat. Martin 101 is certainly an unique artist, you can only imagine what will happen when he finds out there was life after the electronic 80s?
