Broken Tail Records are in a generous mood this month if their latest release is anything to go by for not only do you get the laid back tranquillity of singer songwriter Ben Marwood for your money but they also throw in the raucous vibrancy of Heartwear Process. It's a two for the price of one offer to rival Tescos.
Working on the concept that less is more, Ben Marwood delivers a lesson in the art form of skilful story telling with the soulful 'Hold Your Breath'. Aided purely by the simple jingle of an acoustic guitar and heartfelt vocals that divulge lyrics doused in emotion, Marwood is able to effortlessly lay his feelings on the line for all to see whilst simultaneously creating the soundtrack to unwind to after a stressful day. It's laid back mimilist storytelling at its most relaxed.
Heading in completely the other direction with a fist full of guile and attitude is Heartwear Process with 'Swallow My Tooth'. Stuttering and backed with a punk ethos, 'Swallow My Tooth' is a frenetic journey into a world full of shouty vocals that screech and wail as they playfully swirl around an infectiously catchy melody and irresistible beats to unveil a vibrantly energetic stomp.
Two acts, two completely different styles but both equally appealing, suggesting Broken Tail Records are an indie label harbouring a multitude of interesting acts to tantalise everyone's taste buds.
