Debut from very poor Staffordshire outfit.
Dead Wasps is the rather dubious 'brainchild' of "longtime bedroom muso" Gary Wildsmith and vocalist Hayley Mitchell, who decided to record in a renovated psychiatric hospital. Presumably then, their debut effort 'Mexicola Bare Essentials' is the fruit of their efforts, except that the end result is so uninspiring and repetitive throughout its short running time that it questions the amount of effort instilled in the creation of this music.
Musically this is modern dancefloor electro in a paint by numbers fashion, clearly hoping to find a place for itself amongst the likes of the Gossip, Goldfrapp and Scissor Sisters. Except this is nowhere near good, no, not even in an 'ironic' way. Music this lifeless should be illegal, and I can only assume every label this rubbish was touted to thought the same given that the single is released on the band's own label.
