A Theatrical Turn
A theatrical flight of fancy is the premise behind The Irrepressibles' enchanting music. 'My Friend Jo' is an impassioned tune that careens between orchestral elegance and stirring force as portrayed by songwriter Jamie McDermott's fluttering falsetto vocals. A ten-piece orchestra accompanies McDermott's musings and the sliding violins and throbbing double bass definitely add backbone to the whimsical tune.
B-side 'Knife Song' is a more delicate number with the extravagance of a West End stage lived out in its moments of anger and giddy frissons of excitement. Somewhere between Rufus Wainwright and Arcade Fire, while on CD The Irrepressibles' music is a real treat, a live setting could really give it the wings to truly take flight in the way that the group aspire for.
