You can't always get what you want
Liverpool quartet Rebbeca clearly have stadium-sized ambitions and debut single "What You Will Get" (released independently by the band) is a blustery epic. Overwrought vocals battle with crunching guitars transporting the listener back to a point in 1999 when it was considered vaguely fashionable to combine liberal doses of angst with bombastic production.
It's a novel idea combining the histrionics of early Muse with the noir-ish end of Manson's back catalogue (think "She Makes My Nose Bleed") but it's questionable whether there's a place for this band in the grand scheme of things in 2007. Casting aside this issue (is it really relevant?) "What You Will Get" is rather anaemic, lacking the kind of memorable choruses that propelled Bellamy and co. to the top of the rock pile. One suspects Rebbeca will have to put their plans for world musical domination on hold for now.
