Big Strides hope to make leaps and bounds with 2nd single
Having received extensive play and promotion from Radio 2 presenter Mark Radcliffe, London three-piece Big Strides release the second single from their latest album 'Cry It All Out'.
Touted as "a laid back celebration of the fairer sex", 'She Drinks Whisky' is crafted from a successful fusion of blues, acoustic funk and jazz, drawing upon influences as varied as Miles Davis, The Pixies and even Soundgarden. The funky lead guitar immediately comes to the fore, complimented by subtle yet essential drumbeats and smooth lethargic vocals. The insistent melodic lead guitar steals the show, aided by the occasional improvised solo and a splash of old-skool harmonica. You can easily imagine the band on stage in a smoke-filled jazz cavern, or even a traditional pub. There's no pretentiousness about this band, they write and perform good songs, and that's all that matters.
With such an unorthodox combination of harmonica, double bass and funky drumbeats, it's hard to pigeon hole Big Strides. However, fans of blues and funk should most certainly take a peek. Having already supported the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Bloc Party, it's hoped that this three-piece will indeed make big strides towards the end of 2007.
