Fun and Anthemic

Earlier this year I attended my first silent disco, a peculiar event that saw furious dancing to a choice of two channels, the only song to break entirely free of the headphones and cause an impromptu sing a-long was this fractious anthem from Cold War Kids. Of course with its mention of "splashing around in the muck and the mire", this tune is bound to translate to the UK's mudbaths - I mean festivals - and gain an even greater lease of life.

The rumbling bass riff is simply infectious, while the hollering vocals will soon have you yelping along and the frissons of discordant keys, well who knows what that's about, but it's another triumphant from this quirky US indie band. While the vocals have the depth of another great American singer/songwriter in the tradition of Springsteen et al, they twist to reveal a focus on funky rhythms and playful tunes.
