Interesting background story, boring songs.

'Little Else'/'Close Your Eyes' is a double A-side mp3 download (got that?), from the band How To Cure Dyslexia and is taken from their debut album 'The Tempos of Bicycles and Boats' (released this February). The album was recorded in seven days as an installation at London's Spaceshift gallery, with the general public looking on – as band member Dave believes 'the process of making a record should be seen as a work of art, as much as the finished recorded product itself'.

All this makes for an exciting background to the music's development, but sadly the songs themselves fail to live up to it. Both tracks are primarily composed of light percussion overlaid with soft singing and guitars, with only a shadow of a strong rhythm. 'Little Else' is marginally more memorable than 'Close Your Eyes', having witter lyrics and a better crafted delivery of them; but perhaps unsurprisingly given the circumstances of their creation both tracks sound more like something from a jam session than polished songs that one would want to listen to at home. For some listeners however, that may give them greater authenticity and increase their appeal. As in many cases, it's all a matter of taste.
