Strange name, but a great band.

New England has earnt itself the title of “heavy metal hotbed of the world” by churning acts such the daddies of the scene Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall and the more underground bands like Converge and All That Remains. Invocation Of Nehek has stepped up to the plate, releasing their self-titled debut album on fledgling label Prosthetic Records. Produced by Unearth guitarist Ken Susi this record is highly charged thrash metal with hardcore ethics.

On listening to this record you wonder what drives this quartet to create such focused but chaotic noise. ‘Perfect Role’ is a good opener purely for the reason it has enough degrees of extremity to make sure it doesn’t alienate the listener. ‘Sever The Leech’ ups the pace by incorporating flat out black metal blast beats with guttural Deicide-esque vocals. If you think ‘Porcelain’ is a Moby cover, guess again because it is as crushing as it is melodic.

In today’s ever-changing musical trends hybrid bands and genres are cropping all the time and Invocation Of Nehek are a perfect example of this. It is refreshing to see an obviously talented band putting taking music to the extremities whilst still being poetic.
