Download single from Rufus Wainwright.

The second single from the latest album 'Release the Stars' is a download only affair and features two versions of 'Rules and Regulations', a radio edit and a single version which is 10 seconds shorter.

Despite being a huge Rufus fan I've so far found his latest offering a little lacking in truly great songs. 'Rules and Regulations' is one of its better offerings though and as you might expect it features a dazzlingly impressive range of instruments including horns, several varieties of trumpet and a trombone. These instruments are used more effectively on the lengthier effort where a brass solo near the song's closing moments ends things nicely.

Whilst not one of his most inspirational moments 'Rules and Regulations' features a pleasantly rhythmic structure lyrically, and although there is little of his wry humour the song's structure highlights his astounding proficiency as a musician and composer. A good song to include on a mix for summer or laidback tunes, Rufus can still hit the spot even when he's not at the height of his form.
