Album from London-based band.

Comparisons to Marianne Faithfull on the press release for this album lead me to make the leap that Elena might be good, considering the fact that, you know, Marianne Faithfull is jawdroppingly so, in my view at least. Sadly, I now doubt the fact that the person who made the said comparison has even had the pleasure of hearing Marianne Faithfull, as if they had then surely they would have more respect than to use her as a comparison for this rubbish.

Elena is a Romanian singer who can now be found fronting a London-based band. The tunes, as far as they exist are cheesy attempts at alternative, and woefully misguided. It seems this is the kind of outfit that are under the impression that providing a guitar is involved it must be alternative. The songs themselves sound dated with their mid-tempo soft rock being described as a "fashionable retro guitar sound", I'm sorry, but no. The use of the word 'fashionable' only serves to enhance my disdain, as it suggests this group is nothing more than a cynically deployed marketing tool, an attempt to carve a place in music for a band who are completely mediocre and devoid of any musical merits or inspiration. Thankfully I can't imagine anyone falling for this so hopefully the name will be dismissed before anyone has even had the chance to remember it. Instead of investigating this, why not seek out Marianne Faithfull's back catalogue? It's unlikely you'll be disappointed, whereas you definitely will if you bother with 'Glimpse', yes a glimpse is all I needed to establish just how bad this album is thank you very much.
