Lilting and Fragile

Joan Wasser has already had a varied musical career, but her solo career had a great start with sold out shows at London's Scala and critical acclaim from all over. 'Real Life' is a more tame tune than many featured on her debut solo album, it's a slow-building number that shows Joan's voice off as her notes extend for unnatural periods of time, still retaining their piercing clarity. As a piano duet it best reflects Regina Spektor's recent work, with a jaunty backing behind the sweeping and pirouetting vocals. It's a simple but pleasing tune carried along by Joan's charismatic vocals.

'Real Life' is an odd choice of single as it won't attract many fans through the radio waves, unless Joan's record label are aiming solely for Radio 2 air play, but it is a charming example of this divine singer's work.
