With The Good Comes The Bad

Drawing on their love of old movies starring the likes of Chaplin, Keaton and the Marx Brothers, A Silent Film are a band that apparently come very much into their own on the live stage. With a leather bound book at the side of singer songwriter Robert Stevenson, an old library lamp projects the book's image onto a screen behind the band. Weirdly unusual but what you imagine is mood setting at its very best, A Silent Film certainly seem capable of crafting their own unique atmosphere.

But what of the music? Well, their love of the movies certainly transcends into their music also. 'The Lamplight' beautifully shimmers as it moulds its own captivating cinemascape, adding a hint of melodrama for good measure whilst 'Six Feet Of Rope And Revenge' picks up the pace weaving a jaunty beat amongst Stevenson's soaring vocals. Sadly things then loose their way as 'Sleeping Pills' passes by almost unnoticed before 'Chromatic Eyes' pounds its way through, equipped with more hand claps than should ever be allowed on a track. After a promising start A Silent Film are almost led astray, resulting in their debut EP 'The Projectionist' being a mixed affair. Their live shows may take the prize for eccentric brilliance but unfortunately it looks like with the good comes the bad.
