Angels and Airwaves - Everything's magic

Tom DeLonge's 'supergroup' Angels and Airwaves return with a formulaic single "Everything's magic" from their new album "I-Empire". The track starts on an interesting footing with an 80's synthetic drumbeat loop which has echoes of "Walking on sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves.

It slowly builds into a fully-blown angst ridden attempt at an anthem. But DeLonge has produced a stadium sound without the 'killer' chorus. And with banal lyrics like, "Just sit back and hold on but hold on tight. Prepare for the best and the fastest ride," there is not much to savour. "Everything's magic" has an uplifting trait but ultimately doesn't deliver the stirring moment it promises to.

It may please fans of DeLonge's Blink 182 glory days but with a former Offspring drummer and 30 Seconds to Mars bassist surely they could have produced something with a little more magic.
