Hype or the real thing?

Best band in the world ya know, well according to them. Does anyone actually pay attention to this testosterone fueled chest beating other than the NME?

Didn't that guy from Razorlight just the other day proclaim himself on par with Dickens and Wilde to get himself a few more column inches? I blame Oasis personally with their early nineties histrionics, every band that finds the spotlight seems to feel the need to either equal or go one better than the Gallagers in the braggart stakes.

Anyway, this is a pretty average release from the flavour of the month.

It starts off fairly well with a nice bit of Lalo Schifrin 'Bullitt' type flute, throbbing bass and a fairly hooky backing vocal. But where it should soar it stays merely grounded and ultimately leaves you disinterested. It left me wanting to dig out The Verves 'A Northern Soul'; that glorious, urgent, bench mark LP fom nearly 10 yrs ago: a kind of blueprint for the modern psychedelic baggy space rock Kasabian are making.

Not bad, but not essential either.
