Fortune Favours • The Sound of Your Heartbeat/Underneath These Lights
Cardiff based Fortune Favours are a young new band with some already favourable reviews from Metal Hammer and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens. Their debut single is finally released upon us and there is certainly promise in this bunch.
‘The Sound of Your Heartbeat’ is punchy, hard rock and 80’s punk influenced together. It’s exciting, upbeat and energetic with great guitar riffing and driving rhythms. There’s no screaming and there’s no pretension, they are simply what they are.
The second track ‘Underneath These Lights’ is slower and more melodic sounding It’s definitely not as obvious as the other, but it does show off diversity with a different side to the band.
Fortune Favours have produced something that will be welcomed into the rock world with open arms, they’re quite hard to pigeon hole and that’s probably a good thing, they are a rock band and that’s all they need to be. I think to hear more from this band would be interesting.
