Love Around Here
Smoking Cigarettes is cool..I don't care what anyone says. Or at least is looks cool, the whole filling your lungs with poisonious chemicals is probably far from hip. Music is a brilliant channel for those 'Fuck the Consequences' feelings, and sometimes it is well worth the risk.
This is one of those moments. The loose twang of guitar and ominous grumble of vocals make the perfect soundtrack for a classic evening of self-loathing on the nicotine and whiskey..
"There's just no love around here my darling.." is the protest before we kick back into the malevolent but acute mess of rock 'n' roll and soul mining that a youth listening to Johnny Cash and the Doors should inevitably bring. Nothing forced, nothing contrived, pure heart of darkness poetry from the deserts of Staffordshire..
It gets better. B-side 'The Horizon' is a magnificent psychedelic trip of rattlesnake blues that induces a Cave-esque gothic nightmare of foreboding..Wonderful stuff.
This is what Kasabian THINK they sound like but fall well, WELL short. Guile I salute you
