Hauntingly beautiful and stunningly simple
Right, when this review was originally due, a very very stupid reviewer (yours truly) let this one slip through the net. "Never mind" I thought, "It's probably just another singer songwriter deal, people wont notice." Well.... when the world started talking about Ms Marling, an alarm went off in my head. I was wrong. People were talking about her.
So here I am finally reviewing her breakout single "Ghosts". It's a simple affair to begin with, characterized by the beautiful and endearing voice of one Ms Marling. Slowly building over the run of the track, this single is sweet, beautifully haunting (no pun intended) affair, with some great vocal harmonies. It may seem obvious to tell you that Laura's voice really makes this track what it is, given that it's her name on the single, but, well... it does.
A short and sweet little number but one that will stay with you for a long time. Forget Adele, this is the cream of 2008's singer songwriters. I only wish I had discovered her earlier.
