Unoriginal but great slice of jingly post punk.
If one subscribes, as I do, to Brian Eno's hypothesis that the majority of bands in the current indie cannon sound like either Roxy Music or Talking Heads, then putting things in boxes and dismissing them not only becomes easy but also mandatory. “Domino Effect” sounds rather like a light version of any song from Funeral by Arcade Fire without the musical range or dexterity. So why exactly am I bothering?
But then something happens. Because “Domino Effect” has something that even Arcade Fire, surely Talking Heads' most obvious inspired modern band, lack • charm. Rather than sounding like something soulful and important, The Lines have released a single that wears its influences on it s sleeve and makes no effort to hide it. What you end up with is a genuinely enjoyable single that makes your feet tap and wants you to learn the lyrics so you can sing along in the car. And that is something that can be said of too few bands these days.
