80s Rock With A Country Kick

Time to get those lighters in the air and clench those fists ready to pound the air in full rock ballad enthusiasm as Rascal Flatts release more old school rock anthem clichés in one song than there is emanating from a Bon Jovi tribute act. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Taking their turn with a song that’s been round the block more times than Britney Spears has missed a custody hearing, ‘What Hurst The Most’ has already hit our charts in a number of guises from its original outing by country singer Mark Willis in 2003 to its jaunt out with former S Club singer and shamed CBB outcast Jo O’ Meara right down to its stint in the top ten only last month with Cascada who never ones to let an anthemic chorus go astray put their own spin on the track.

Now its time for Rascal Flatts to try and breathe life into the track, something they do extremely well, stripping it down to its anthemic core and layering on soul searching heartbreak jammed between soaring vocals that won’t fail in having you clenching your fist for the defining power ballad moment and that’s not forgetting the band’s original country roots flowing throughout. Cheesy as they come but nonetheless catchy and undeniably touching, 80s old school rock meets country heartache in a song that you’ll publicly ridicule but will secretly adore.
